NOURISHING COOKIES
The “Sus Buenos Vecinos” (Your Good Neighbors) Foundation provides on a monthly basis the funds necessary to distribute the cookies and nutrition supplements to 6000 children every day. The weight and height of all beneficiaries are controlled and they are also given parasite drugs and nutritional supplements, with the objective of improving their health, nutrition and welfare in general.

The distribution of cookies gave way to the creation of a line of action closer to the communities, resulting in the creation of small sub-centers which prevent children from having to travel far away to receive food and nourishing cookies.

Investing in programs for children and parent education are effective tools for poverty eradication

Education

Community participation is born with the community’s organization and grows and gains force from training and learning. This is why the Association has a permanent training programme on areas such as management of rural projects, health and nutrition care, community organization and leadership. These training events include the participation of community educators who use didactic material in indigenous languages Gnobe, Embera, Kuna and Spanish. Sewing workshops have also been organized, where women learn to manufacture dresses and make handcrafts.
The response is stimulating, since by wakening individual and collective conscience, learning is facilitated and motivation is generated.

Farming and animal rearing projects

Orchards have bee installed in the Community centers and sub-centers. There, rice, beans, string beans, carrots, cucumbers, corn and other vegetables are grown for self-consumption and in some cases, also for commercial exchange. There is also animal breeding: birds, ducks, pigs, rabbits and goats.

The techniques used are adequate for their reality, thus allowing their easy implementation.
